Description
The Dante Giacosa-designed Fiat 500 was introduced in 1957 as a city car successor to Topolino. The air-cooled engine and gearbox were situated at the back allowing for a larger cabin space and comfort for its 4 passengers. The 500 Lusso was unveiled in 1969 and featured front-hinged doors and a series of luxury cosmetic appointments including chrome bumper bars, smoother hubcaps, brighter trims for the windscreen and rear window, a Fiat badge in the front as well as a revised interior with non-glare plastic dashboard, new instrument binnacle, redesigned door cards and a 2-spoke steering wheel.
The 500L offered was produced in 1970 in Rosso Medio with Nero interior and a folding roof top. In 2003 it was subjected to a caring restoration to the very last detail with a 126A1. 048 square-head engine upgrade providing for 23 bhp and 43 Nm output. Since then it remains in a splendid condition throughout via occasional exercising to local events and shows.
