DESCRIPTION
With Ford introducing the Mk5 into the public domain in 1990 upon arrival the model received a mixed response and covered a short life cycle, Even though it was a new design. With most of the internal and running gear being transferred from it’s predecessor, However the model still retained within the top three spots of sales figures for years 1990-1991.
EXTERNAL
With unmistaken lines running from front to rear with slightly bulging front arches the Ford Escort was ahead in the design stakes, Finished in Ford Tasman Blue (CODE K81) with uniformed panels and pin sharp gaps presenting the original glossy paintwork, With the newer design wrap around front bumper and full grey side stripes running down both side doors which are in the best of condition, Moving to the rear which also maintained the wrap around bumper effect with silver pin stripe sat beautifully and straight. Maintaining the original headlamps along with the panel affect flat rear lights. All ford badges sit as intended and correct. All original door locks sit correct along with manually mounted door mirrors, This particular model also boasts the factory upgrade tilt/ slide sunroof.
INTERNAL
The interior simply takes you back to the early nineties, the unmistaken combination of dash and seating retaining the same colours. Having Bluestone (CODE J2) cloth check seats front and rear which are in spotless condition along with the deep pile blue interior carpet which shows little signs of wear and echoes the cars low mileage. Matching door cars all round replicate the Bluestone cloth and present in the very best of condition along with front door pockets and manual up/ down window winder handles all round. The blue original dashboard houses a deep set time clock and alarm illumination icon to the centre of the dash along with a deep set drivers binnacle housing speedometer, fuel gauge and temperature gauge along with obligatory warning symbols, all functioning as Ford intended. In the centre of the dash a three speed fan switch along with hot/ cold and directional switches, Push button heated rear screen and fog light switches complement the remainder of the dash. The original steering wheel shows little signs of wear concurrent with a vehicle showing just over 18, 000 miles from new. Maintaining original switchgear throughout along with a manual tilt/ slide sunroof fully working and in the best of condition along with the original Ford stereo fitted. The grey perforated roof linings in immaculate condition along with the passenger and drivers sun visors, The passenger side sun visor houses a vanity mirror. The rear parcel shelf remains original and un-molested.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Fitted with the 4-cylinder petrol 1400cc cvh engine producing 75bhp, Having been maintained meticulously with Ford motorcraft consumables the engine starts and runs beautifully, Mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox which is smooth and precise throughout the 5 speed range.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES-
With factory fit steel wheels fitted along with the original Factory embossed silver wheel trims shod with Goodyear 175/ 70R13 on all four corners with ample tread on them, With original steel spare wheel in the boot and matching Goodyear tyre still with the Goodyear manufacturer sticker on it-simply amazing. With disc brakes up front and drums to the rear along with vacuum assisted diagonaly split braking which brings you to a precise controlled stop.
