EXTERIOR
Finished in the popular Cherry red, the car sits in nearly all of its factory paint from new and presents in excellent cosmetic condition. The car is completely original – the very definition of a survivor car that is eminently presentable with a handful of tiny marks betraying the cars age and mileage. The plastic black trim that sits around the arches, bumpers and along the sides of the car are in great condition with no scuffs to report.
The lights are immaculate, the glass is all-original displaying the original number plate inscription and having clearly been garaged for most of its life all the rubber seals still feel supple.
INTERIOR
The black and red interior theme is immediately synonymous with Peugeot GTi. The red quartet fabric appears in first-rate condition, with none of the normal fading to the carpets or upholstery, whilst the seat bolsters have aged remarkably well with no bolster wear or damage. Although not specified from factory a period Clarion radio cassette player was installed early in the cars life.
There are no cracks or areas of sun damage to any of the dash or black plastic trims, the door cards are perfect and the rear parcel shelf has been left untouched.
The original vacuum sunroof operates exactly as it should with no leaks.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
With 130hp and a kerb weight of 900kgs, the 1. 9 GTi set the bar for hot hatch excitement and inspired a generation. The relationship between pin sharp steering, tactile gear shift and fizzing 1. 9 engine was a revelation; the car would establish itself as one of the very best drivers cars.
All efforts have been made throughout the cars life to remain OEM and with a full Peugeot service history up to 56k miles the car has since had the clutch and cambelt replaced as well as work to the standard exhaust system; an easily upgradable item although the owner remained dedicated to original fitment.
The car starts up as it should, without any unwanted judder or smoke, and performs well on test.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The original 15 inch Speedline wheels present in their original silver finish from factory having never been refurbished. Again, these could have easily have been repainted but originality wins on this example.
Matching Firestone rubber adorns all four corners with plenty of tread depth remaining.
HISTORY FILE
As illustrated by the original sales invoice this fantastic GTi was delivered to a Mrs Pelling in March of 1993 by Motorhaven Peugeot of St Leonards. Quite the enthusiast, the new owner would part exchange her 10k mile ’91 GTi for this brand new example.
The original service book accounts for 7 stamps with the main dealer, and covers the first 42k miles up until 1999, before the owner opted for Peugeot’s ‘4-plus’ service schedule – it’s own booklet that annotates a further 4 services up to 56k miles in 2004. All supporting paperwork for services carried out are present and correct in the history folder.
Finding a new home in 2006 and remaining with it’s second owner since, the car has been used sparingly on high days and holidays and sits having covered just 63k miles from new. With a new fuel pump, sump gasket and oil level sensor alongside a full fluids service in March of this year the car sits in excellent mechanical health.
As an incredibly original and unmolested survivor example with just 2 owners and low mileage the car sits as a fabulous usable practical classic or with some small investment – a show winning car.
The original book pack features 2 x service books and all invoicing from new including both keys with working remote fobs.
