Just arrived at The Garage!
1936 Austin 10/ 4 Clifton 2 seat tourer with dickey seat
April 1932 was to see the introduction of a car that was to prove a ‘best seller’ for Austin in the form of the 10/ 4 range.
Although it was considered that the two seat tourers with dickey seat coachwork had become something of an anachronism by the early 1930’s, Austin found there was just sufficient demand to offer this versatile style on the chassis of several models.
The 10/ 4 range included this style, which was designated ‘Clifton’ from August 1934 - a name that had previously been applied to the 12/ 4 four seat tourer of the previous decade.
The 10/ 4 Clifton was listed in the Austin catalogue until 1937 and featured slight updates later in 1936, namely the fitment of the much improved Girling braking system along with ‘Easiclene’ 16” wheels in place of the previous 19” wire wheels.
Correctly finished in Ash Grey as original, this example was first registered in Cambridgeshire in December 1936.
A complete restoration was undertaken to a very good standard during the 1990’s and the car still presents in excellent order today and was the recipient of an award at the Austin Ten Drivers’ Club National Rally upon completion of the restoration.
Now something of a rarity, with only approximately 65 survivors recorded from a production run of c750.
A very useable small pre-war car with excellent spares availability.
A video will be updated shortly.
