The Dino range of sports cars was named in honor of Enzo Ferrari’s son, Alfredino, who designed a dual overhead-camshaft V6 engine for both road and racing use before tragically passing away from muscular dystrophy at the age of 24. In his honor, Enzo created a sub-brand in his son's name with the intention of competing with smaller and less-expensive sports cars than his traditional 12-cylinder offerings. Starting with the all-aluminum 206 GT that was introduced at the 1967 Turin Motor Show, the Dino line competed with the likes of Porsche with the same Italian style, flair, and drama of the parent company.
Only 152 Dino 206s were produced before the car was superseded with the 246 GT/ GTS. Boasting a 2. 4L V6 that produced 15 more horsepower than the 180 offered in the 206, the 246 was noticeably quicker than its predecessor. Slightly off-setting the increased power was the switch to a largely steel body as a cost-saving measure. Naturally, handling proved to be fantastic, and the styling was as seductive as ever. Sir Stirling Moss is one of the many drivers who thought very highly of the Dino, and he was quoted as saying, “No other car I’ve driven made me feel so clearly that I wanted to race again…the worst part of the test was having to hand the car back in at the end.”
The incredible 1973 Dino 246 GTS featured here is finished in highly sought after Nero over a Sabbia leather interior with a satin Black removable Targa top. This exquisite motorcar is one of only 63 produced in this desirable exterior color. The car was originally delivered in Southern California, where it remained for most of its life.
