Charterhouse Auctioneers are pleased to offer this item in our upcoming on site unreserved auction, near Bridport (details to be released in due course) of a Collection of Classic & Vintage Cars and Farming Bygones (vintage tractors, ploughs etc and a Victorian shepherds hut) from a deceased estate on the 7th August at 12pm. Viewing on the auction day (Wednesday 7th August) only from 9am. Vehicles will need to be removed by 12:30pm on Thursday 8th August, vehicles not collected will be removed to a store incurring a transportation charge and storage charge.

Family owned from new
Originally ordered by the Reverend James Douglas Simpson it passed to his son Norman Douglas Simpson (please see his Alvis TJ 12/ 50 also in this auction)
Understood to be one of two Mayfair bodied Alvis cars, with the possibility of a third in Australia
With a wonderful and extensive history file/ archive including:
Hand written paper diary pages noting the Alvis travels 1933-1935 (assume written by the chauffeur)
Four Autocar Register for Motorists Diary(ies) for Recording the Upkeep Cost and Expenses of Motor Cars for the years 1937, 1938, 1939, 1946 and 1947
Much early correspondence from ordering the chassis from Alvis and ordering the body from The Mayfair Carriage Company
Also noting the Alvis was originally chauffeur driven (until 1936) and was used until 1949, remaining off the road until 1974 when it passed to another family member
Much work carried out by Rod Jolley in 1990 with bills on file (engine rebuild, radiator rebuild, rewire, dismantling car, chrome plating & reassembly) for £2, 286. 15, £5, 022. 69, £3, 129. 82, £512. 32, and £2, 500. 75, totalling £13, 451. 73 (against an estimate of £8, 000 which the owner notes in his correspondence as being frightnening!)
RF60 buff log book, numerous booklets, tax discs for 1946 & 1948 and servicing ephemera
Also correspondence to and from DVLA when the family managed to retain the original registration number LJ 7368 after the car was laid up (1949 onwards) and the paperwork lost
Even with two Motor Spirit Ration Books for LJ 7368 dated 1939 
With various colour photographs, assume from the 1990's, some loaded in images
With V5 (previous owner) and V5C, registration number non-transferable
