1934 Lagonda M35 Rapide Very rare features. This is a Rapide M35 that was originally built on the shorter 10' 3" Rapide chassis and is still fitted with its original and very rare Tourer T9 bodywork.
Highlights - Chassis No: Z11162 - Engine No: 3180 This is truly a unique car with a rare specification: the Rapide M35 built on the shorter Rapide 10' 3 " chassis, combined with its original and exceptionally rare Tourer T9 bodywork. This car was registered on 19 August 1934, making it one of the first models produced, probably the second or third in the range, with chassis number Z11162. Remarkably, this car has retained much of its originality.
In 1957, Dennis Stratton became the registered owner and generously loaned the car to film companies, including the famous British film Doctor in the House. Later, in 1962, Stratton sold the car to Johnny White. Mr White, a former employee of the old Lagonda company, had also owned a Lagonda dealership in Bourne End since the 1930s. This Lagonda was the last of several that he would own. We have confirmation of its appearance in the 1954 film 'Doctor in the House' and we even have a copy of the film sequence.
Prior to the acquisition by the current owner, Peter Whenman had already undertaken a partial restoration of the car. Under the direction of the current owner, it has undergone extensive attention, including new wiring, a complete body restoration, refurbished woodwork, a new fuel tank, refreshed wheel bearings, revised leaf springs, an upgrade to the rear axle with the longer gear ratio of the M45 Rapide, a complete restoration of the gearbox and a rebuild of the engine including a special crankshaft that increased its displacement to 4. 2 litres, producing nearly 190 horsepower. What's more, the interior has just been magnificently reupholstered in red leather.
This Lagonda is now in impeccable working order and ready for countless rallies. Its T9 Tourer bodywork, with its elegant lines, conceals an astonishing level of speed and performance, making it a real wolf in sheep's clothing.
