The Maserati 3500 GT marked the start of series production of road-going sports cars at Maserati; all earlier models had been more or less one-offs suitable for competition.
The engine of the 3500 GT was derived from that of the Tipo 350S racing model. It was a 3. 5-litre in-line six-cylinder engine with two overhead camshafts which produced 220 hp.
The 3500 GT was offered as a coupé and a spider.
The body was designed by Carozzeria Touring, which was producing the Aston Martin DB4 at the same time.
Touring used its own patented ‘Superleggera’ method: thin aluminium sheets were pulled over a steel moulded frame previously connected to the longitudinal frame.
A total of 1972 examples of the closed 3500 GT and GTI models with factory bodywork (Touring) were built by 1964; in addition, there were 245 Vignale Spiders.
As a luxury-class vehicle, the 3500 GT found numerous buyers from politics, society and show business. In addition to Prince Rainier III of Monaco, Tony Curtis, Stewart Granger, Rock Hudson, Dean Martin and Anthony Quinn also drove a Maserati 3500.
Our car is certainly one of the most beautiful of the series, perfectly balanced in terms of originality and degree of restoration!
It has been part of a high-calibre collection for the past 20 years.
Between 2007 and 2010, it was restored in Italy by one of the best Maserati workshops known to us for around € 150, 000.
In the collection, it was regularly moved and serviced, most recently receiving a fresh MOT in July 2024 and is ready for a great journey in style.
