Here at Motodrome, we’ve a real soft spot for classic Americana, , and so we’re pleased to offer this fantastic 1948 Chevrolet Fleetmaster 2-door sport coupe.
Restomod? Hot Rod? Streetrod? Custom car? Call it what you want, but it’s pretty special whichever name you give it.
The Fleetmaster, especially in 2dr sport coupe form with it’s curvaceous bodywork and magnificent art deco inspired grille, is a popular choice for modifying stateside, but rare in the UK.
This one was beautifully built stateside to incorporate the majority of the underpinnings from a 1975 Chevy Camaro, including the 350 V8 small block motor ( fited here with a Holley carb and Weiand Street Warrior manifold, and fully dressed), TH350 automatic transmission, 10-bolt rear axle and steering column.
The only major component that’s non-GM is the front suspension set up, which is based on the Mustang II independent front suspension. Again, this is a common upgrade stateside, especially, as in this case, it can be fitted with rack and pinion power steering.
Further upgrades include air conditioning (working nicely) and electric front windows, and a beautifully retrimmed interior.
It’s had just one UK owner, steeped in American classics, who sourced it and imported it to the UK, and registered it in 2017. In his time it’s had a full bare-metal respray by Custom Coachworks in Eastbourne, new tinted glass all round, the gearbox and torque converter reconditioned, plus general servicing, maintenance and work.
Odometer reading 4000m, which likely relates to it’s mileage since build. We have a reasonable amount of history, although the previous owner is competent enough to have carried out a lot of the work since importation himself. We also have the original US title documents.
Overall, it’s simply magnificent and guaranteed to start a conversation wherever you park her up.
