Description
The final version of the Minor was launched in 1962 with 1098cc engine, stronger gearbox, larger drum brakes and various detail upgrades. The early models are something of a sweet spot in Minor production; better to use in modern traffic than earlier cars but are generally thought to be better built than the later cars. They also retain a host of early attractive features such as the “banjo” steering wheel and duo-tome interior.
This car is a 1964 Minor Traveller in its original colour scheme of “Old English White” with a red interior. The number 730 BRK is original to the car. The V5 shows just two previous owners and it was in the hands of the same owner from 1970 until 2015.
It was discovered in a barn in 2015, where it had been stored for just 39 years and restored over a period of 18 months by its previous owner – an accomplished engineer. Remarkably, the mileage is just 45, 000 from new – old MOT’s show it at 42, 000 in 1975, the year before it was laid up.
In addition to a very long list of trim and bright-work parts, the tyres, clutch exhaust, wood-work and interior were replaced, and the braking and suspension systems were completely overhauled and the car was repainted to the highest standards.
The car presents in sublime condition - the fit and paint finish are close to perfect - and except for the odd tiny minor imperfection, it’s difficult to fault nearly 10 years after restoration. It is fitted with a few useful modern upgrades; including fuel catalyst, inertia front and rear belts, Halogen headlights, electric screen-washers, negative to earth conversion and a discreetly mounted retro/ modern stereo with blue tooth hands free.
As you would expect, it runs and drives beautifully – just as well as it looks!
We have just carried out a few re-commissioning jobs after a period of little use and this beautiful Minor is now ready to be used.
