Collectors and investors should keep the following in mind: When it comes to GT40s (replicas), it is essential that the French registration document matches the vehicle in question (manufacturer, year, model, engine) in order to secure your purchase. French legislation (FFVE) is very strict when it comes to replicas: in order to receive a French vehicle registration document (Collection), a replica must be more than 30 years old (date of manufacture), must no longer be in production, and must be in its original condition. By applying this rule imposed since 2014 by the French government and the FFVE, very few replicas are admissible in France. An informed buyer will therefore have to ask himself questions about the true legality of GT40s with 1965 or 1966 registration documents (unless this Cobra cost 5 million or more and is therefore a genuine original FORD GT40). Likewise, if a GT40 from a modern replica brand that began production in 2005 or 2010 is for sale with a registration dated 1974, 1982 or 1986 ...., these GT40 replicas should be avoided because their registrations are fraudulent.
