The Appeal
Citroën XM: European Car of the Year 1990.
The winner of the title was voted into first place by no fewer than 40 of the 57 judges - an astonishing 175 points clear of the runner-up. Clearly the panel agreed that the Citroën XM fulfilled in exceptional measure, all the stated criteria - comfort, safety, economy, handling, performance, value for money, functionality and driver satisfaction. Their extraordinary unanimity however suggests that here is something considerably more than simply another highly competent executive saloon. The scale of the XM's triumph hints at a car of singular character and outstanding merit.
The History
Just 55, 266 miles from new
Supplied new in Jersey in October 1994
Original service book with servicing details.
For the first 10 years kept in Jersey by 2 owners during which time it had covered less than 24, 400 miles.
Transferred to England in January 2004 then used in Europe until returning for its 40, 000 mile UK service in September 2005.
Between 2007 and 2016 the car was kept off the road in storage in the UK.
In 2020 the car was bought by former Lotus engineer Adie Pease who was an expert in restoration of many Citroen models and had also developed a unique DS convertible fitted with a Citroen Maserati V6 engine.

In May 2021 I bought the car on a Car and Classic online auction on 22th May 2021. There was fierce bidding with 49 bids and I won the auction with a final bid of £7, 450. See full details and 95 photos here:

We had intended to use the XM for holiday trips to France. For various health reasons since then we have been unable to use it, but in the meantime we had the late Malcolm Orme at Savoy Motors Burnley, who was well known to XM forum members, carry out further work including replacing suspension spheres, a new remote central locking and a new starter motor etc.
A new front and centre silencer was fitted together 5 new Falken tyres in June 2024.
In my 4 years of ownership I have covered less than 1000 miles. Before the MOT was renewed on August 4th 2025 a new CV boot was fitted and both wiper blades replaced. The new MOT has no advisories.
The car is kept in my garage at home on trickle charge.
There is no rust whatsoever to any part of the car. Documentation etc
The car comes with its original service book, two French manuals, a Haynes manual and a glossy XM book giving the full history of its development.
It also comes with various invoices over the years, 2 ignition keys and 2 remote control fobs.
Also included with the car is a good quality silver waterproof external cover and a brand new battery.
