1980 Honda 99cc CB100N
Registration no. ASC 289W
Frame no. CB100N 1015263
Engine no. CB100NE 1015276
Soichiro Honda commenced motorcycle production in 1946, with a batch of Japanese army surplus engines which he had built into motorcycles. He then started to produce his own engines along similar lines. Development and expansion continued apace throughout the 1950s and in the latter part of that decade began to register in the consciousness of the British public. The early Super Cub step-throughs created their own market, and formed the basis on which the company were to build. They led on to a plethora of small bikes and mini bikes, overhead cam engines, and larger-engined bikes such as the CB125 and CG125. In 1978 the CB100N was first imported to the UK. Equipped with a five-speed gearbox to keep it on the boil, it formed a stepping-stone for learners and commuters to move on to the bigger models. ASC 289W dates from December 1980; it displays 6, 262 miles on the odometer, and the vendor advises that it was restored during the early part of this year. The engine was stripped, the casings were vapour blasted, and it was fitted with new seals and gaskets. The frame and other parts were powder coated, the paintwork on the petrol tank and side panels were professionally stripped and repainted. The machine was then re-commissioned by Loch Ness Restorations, and is stated to be in very good condition overall. Documentation for the machine consists of a current V5C.
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams Motorcycles Website for all pertinent auction information.
