Description
The Morris Oxford was manufactured by William Morris, later the British Motor Corporation (BMC), between 1913 and 1971. The Farina-styled Oxfords, designated Series V and VI, represented the final and most refined incarnations of this long-running model line. In total, 208, 823 examples were produced, and the Oxford became a firm favourite among the aspiring middle classes and the upwardly mobile family buyer of the 1960s. Robust, well-appointed, and undeniably British, the Oxford epitomised dependable motoring in an age of quiet prosperity. Today, however, few remain, with many succumbing to corrosion or the depredations of the banger racing scene of the 1980s, making original, unrestored survivors highly prized among collectors.
At Milestones, we take pride in sourcing well-priced classics in outstanding condition for our clients. The early history of this Oxford is somewhat a mystery, but it is understood to have been retained by its original owner for many years before being carefully stored by his widow. Remarkably, this example has never required welding, a rare claim for a Farina-bodied car with sills, outriggers, and floors all remaining exactly as they left Cowley in 1965. Mechanically, she starts readily, drives smoothly, and performs admirably in modern traffic conditions, a testament to both the car’s original engineering and the care it has clearly received throughout its life.
Finished in the deep and elegant hue of Damask Red, the bodywork presents beautifully and is complemented by bright, original chrome bumpers and trim in excellent condition. The interior is a delight with dove grey leather seats, matching door cards, and high-quality carpets remain in exceptional order. The headlining is taut and clean, and upon entering the cabin one is immediately transported back to the mid-1960s—the gentle aroma of original leather completing the effect.
Accompanying the car is a modest but pleasing history file, including a selection of invoices, past MOT certificates, and the original Driver’s Handbook. A British Heritage Certificate confirms the car’s provenance. The Oxford comes to Milestones only because its owner, one of our long-standing customers, has recently acquired another of our fine classics.
Farina Oxfords in such condition are now increasingly difficult to source. Perfect for weekend touring, classic car shows, or simply a leisurely run to the local pub, this charming Morris offers both usability and nostalgia in equal measure. For the fortunate new custodian, it promises many years of rewarding ownership and the quiet satisfaction that only a truly original example can provide.
