Description
A rare chance to acquire a Standard Flying 14, and one that feels refreshingly honest throughout.
Finished in cream with a red leather interior, the car wears its age well. The paint shows some crazing and the leather and headlining have the sort of wear you’d expect from a pre-war car that’s been used and enjoyed, rather than over-restored. The dashboard, however, is a real highlight — in fantastic condition, with all instruments working as they should.
It starts and drives exactly as you’d hope. The car has been fully rewired and converted from 6V to 12V, making it far easier to live with, and the trafficators have been correctly rewired and are operational. These re-wiring works cost £4k!Further Recent works includes a new fuel pump, Lucas screen wash and attention to the choke and a carburettor tune. The car has also been recently serviced. Underneath, it’s solid and reassuring.
The 1. 8-litre engine — of the type seen in early SS Jaguars — pulls nicely and suits the car well. An original operations manual comes with the car, a lovely period touch and something you rarely see.
Believed to be one of only around three surviving examples, this Flying 14 offers something genuinely different. It’s not fussy or overdone, just a proper pre-war saloon with real character, ready to be used and enjoyed.
