Description
Well, well. After almost 30 years of being a professional classic car dealer, there has to be a first time for everything. Here she is. My very first Allard!
She is a 1947 (September) L Type which means she is a 4-seater tourer fitted with the 3622 flat head V8 as used in the Ford Pilot. Allards were true Brit cars, their company being founded by Sydney Allard before World War Two. A mere 191 L Types were produced - all hand built with a lightweight aluminium and steel body - and this particular car is chassis number 138. She is, according to club sources, the fourth oldest L Type on the planet. It is believed that just 37 survive with only around 18 still on the road worldwide!
This fine and solid old girl requires full restoration. Her bodywork shows little, if any, sign of serious rot. She has spent the past 55 years in storage with her bodywork greased and her underside covered in coal paint which appears to have helped immensely with the car's preservation.
Her original engine, I am told so do not take my word for it, is currently seized however she comes with a crated engine which at the time of its last sale two years ago, was described as being "unused." These flat four V8 engines are acutely rare and so it's a massive bonus to have this spare engine aboard as part of the deal.
She has a hood which is beyond repair although the frame work remains. Make no mistake, this is one hell of a rare vehicle and one which thoroughly deserves love and care all the way along a full restoration. She is all there however, including the two side panels for each side of the bonnet.
I am Martin and delivery can be arranged. the details below.
