Description
One of the rarest Allard models (of only 84 made, including around a dozen UK cars), FES 888 still features its original registration (with V5C in my name).
This is one of very few of these Allard’s which features the more attractive AC-Ace/ Cobra-esque front bodywork. All main original aluminium body panels (front end with grille and bonnet, doors, rear end with boot lid, and inner panels) are still present, as are the chassis plate, body builder’s plate, and bonnet badge. The chassis is good and has its axles, suspension, brakes and steering. It stands on wheels with spare wheel centres also included.
First supplied with a Ford Zephyr 6-cylinder engine, disassembled parts of which are included, this Allard is now presented for sale with a desirable 1953-4 Jaguar DOHC XK 3. 4 litre engine with “S” Special Equipment stamping (matching block and head) and close ratio gearbox.
Suitable for rebuild/ restoration and a super opportunity to put together a rare and fast 1950s sports car in the guise of the HWM-Jaguar and Cooper-Jaguar sports racing cars, with great scope for further improvement and development. It would surely be welcome at many events. Only for sale due to a change in plans. Centrally based and can be viewed over tea and biscuits in Nottingham.
I believe this to be the only Allard Palm Beach Mark 1 sold new in Scotland, supplied to the Frew & Company dealership in Perth in November 1953. Allard Motor Company still have the build sheets (copies available).
