The XJR-S was a rare model produced by Jaguar Sport, a separate entity owned 50/ 50 by Jaguar and its racing partner Tom Wilkinshaw Racing. Established to create a sportier version of the company's existing range. Unfinished XJS's were transported from Jaguars Brown Lane Factory to TWR's facility in Kidlington. His company Jaguar Sport or TWR was already producing body and suspension kits for the XJ-S. Each car left the factory as individually built cars. Both a 5. 3 litre and 6. 0 litre engine were available in the car.
The XJR-S featured a very distinctive body kit with Speedline alloy wheels, a unique suspension system utilising modified coil springs and Bilstein shocks. The interior a luxurious Connolly Autolux leather along with Walnut trim.
In late 1989 the engines increased to 5344cc (6. 0 litres) and production ceased in 1993. A total of 787 coupes and 50 convertibles were built for the world market.
