Description
The Standard 8 was produced from 1938 until 1941 then after the war from 1945 until 1948. Confusingly the cars were known as Eight and Flying Eight then 8hp or 4/ 8A from 1945. The post war cars were similar to the pre-war versions but with a four speed gearbox. The model was pitched against rivals Austin 8 and Morris Eight but they are rarer today.
This car is a 1947 model Standard 8 in blue with a red interior. The car comes to us from a regular customer who bought it last year but decided it’s a little too old fashioned. The previous owner had it for sixteen years and the owner before that (who restored it) owned the car since 1978.
It’s an older, high quality restoration that presents very well. The paint finish is very good with just the odd minor imperfection. The interior has had a smart re-trim and all the gauges work as do the semaphores. The underside is excellent, matching the rest of the car in terms of condition. The 1009cc side-valve engine starts instantly and runs well and the gearbox is quiet and precise.
We have just carried out a little work including an engine service and one or two minor cosmetic jobs. It has also recently been Waxoyled and had discreetly fitted flashing indicators fitted to supplement the semaphores.
Clearly very good value, a fraction of the cost of restoring one and in lovely condition for a car that will be 80 years old next January!
Comes with a few spares, original handbook, modern V5 and buff logbook.
