Description
1972 Austin Sprite 1275
A very rare Austin Sprite 1275, The Healey connection was discontinued in 1971, so the final 1, 022 Sprites built were simply Austin Sprites. This was a cost cutting move enabling British Leyland to stop paying royalties to Donald Healey Motor Company. There was no direct successor, as BL's extensive range already contained the MG Midget, which was identical to the Sprite except for badging and a few other differences, wheels, grill etc...
We purchased last year from long term ownership (19 years) and have recommissioned the vehicle over the last 6 months.
We believe the car to have been painted black from new before being registered, possibly a main dealer demonstrator as the vehicle was registered in 1972 and black not being an optional colour.
57, 780 miles from new, backed up by old mot certificates dating back to 1988.
A very solid, useable classic, not concourse but very nice and original..
