History:
The 2002 Mercedes-Benz SL 500 Silver Arrow Edition is a special limited-edition version of the R129-generation SL-Class roadster. It was produced in the final year of the R129 model run (which spanned 1989–2002) to celebrate the end of production and pay homage to Mercedes-Benz’s legendary 1930s Silver Arrow racing cars.
Paint: Exclusive Silver Arrow Metallic (paint code 777) — a beautiful ultra-metallic silver with a distinctive flake that looks especially striking in sunlight.
Body: Full AMG Sport styling package, including aerodynamic bumpers, side skirts, and other subtle enhancements.
Wheels: Special 18-inch two-piece BBS Monoblock wheels with polished stainless steel beauty rings.
Top: Power-retractable black soft top + removable aluminum hardtop (with storage stand).
Other features: Xenon headlights, illuminated “Silver Arrow” door sills, special badging, and polished aluminum accents.
Two-tone Nappa leather: Typically, black with silver/ ash gray inserts.
Trim: Birds-eye maple wood, engine-turned/ machined aluminum dashboard and instrument cluster surround.
Steering wheel & details: Leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, Silver Arrow floor mats, and specific badging.
Standard luxury features: Heated power seats with memory, automatic climate control, Bose sound system with 6-disc CD changer, rain-sensing wipers, and more.
Engine: 5. 0-liter M113 V8 (naturally aspirated, aluminum block/ heads) producing 302 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque.
Transmission: 5-speed automatic.
Performance: 0–60 mph in around 6 seconds, with a smooth, refined grand-tourer character rather than raw sports car aggression.
Drivetrain: Rear-wheel drive.
Fuel Economy: Roughly 16 city / 23 highway mpg.
Suspension: Sophisticated multi-link setup with excellent ride quality and handling for a heavy luxury convertible (curb weight ~4, 100+ lbs).
The Silver Arrow is considered one of the most desirable final examples of the R129 SL. It’s the last of the “old-school” overbuilt Mercedes roadsters — extremely durable, luxurious, and comfortable for long-distance cruising, yet still capable. Many enthusiasts view it as a future classic because it represents the peak refinement of the R129 platform before the more tech-heavy R230 generation arrived in 2003.
It’s a head-turner with its unique silver paint, two-tone interior, and special details. Today, well-maintained low-mileage examples are popular in the collector market.
This car:
Our car on offer is a three-owner, low 40k mile example of the Silver Arrow Edition SL 500. One of only 1500 made for the US market.
The car presents extremely nice and still wears almost 100% of its original paint on laser straight body panels. The hood has been touched up for some rock chips.
The two-tone leather interior is extremely well preserved and shows near perfect. The dash is without any damage and all dials are in perfect working order. Door panels, carpets and headliner are flawless.
The middle console shows a little patina. Overall, the interior is in stunning condition. The electric soft top works fantastic and is in flawless condition.
Mechanically, the car appears sound and very strong. It has been serviced carefully throughout its life and runs, shifts and drives amazingly.
All 3 owners took perfect care of the car and addressed anything in need over the years.
This beautiful SL comes with all factory manuals and brochures, tools and a stand for the Hardtop is included as well.
The car is very attractive, well sorted and a delight to drive. You can feel the precision and craftsmanship of this SL immediately. All finishes, the way the doors close, no rattles or noises, just plain precise Mercedes accuracy.
