Jaguar XK140 SE DHC, year 1956 (date of manufacture 26 September 1955). Chassis (VIN) number S817919DN, engine number: G5346 8S. The car retains its matching numbers, confirmed by the accompanying Jaguar Heritage certificate. This wonderful XK140 SE Drophead Coupé was delivered new to Los Angeles, USA. It was imported into the Netherlands around the year 2000 and subsequently underwent an extensive restoration. In 2004 the car was sold to Germany through one of the ClassicarGarage partners. The Jaguar has been cherished by the same owner for 22 years and was serviced punctually throughout that period. This fantastic Jaguar is in a very good condition, showing a pleasing patina built up over decades of careful use. The quality of the restoration is evident in the excellent panel fit, the still very attractive paintwork, and the fine chrome brightwork. The car comes with an extensive history and service file containing historic documents and numerous invoices, giving the next owner a clear and detailed insight into its past. According to the Heritage certificate, this XK140 was factory specified with Special Equipment (SE). The SE designation is not a separate model but a performance oriented package. It includes the Jaguar C type sports cylinder head, raising power from 190 bhp to around 210 bhp; a twin exhaust system for improved breathing and a deeper note; chrome wire wheels enhancing both appearance and lightness; and twin Lucas 576 SLR/ SFT driving lamps mounted on the front valance, paired with the special four position light switch on the dashboard. This example is also fitted with the desirable overdrive option. A rare and valuable feature of this XK140 is the pair of SU sand cast carburettors, originally used on early XK120s and racing C types between 1951 and 1953. A fully specified SE version with these carburettors is seldom seen and highly sought after.
