1961 Ariel Arrow 250 – 528 YUT
A wonderfully distinctive 1961 Ariel Arrow 250, registration 528 YUT, finished in a very attractive period-style gold and ivory/ cream colour scheme.
The Arrow was introduced by Ariel at the end of the 1950s as a lighter, sportier development of the fully enclosed Ariel Leader. For its day it was an unusually modern motorcycle, using a 247cc air-cooled two-stroke parallel-twin engine, four-speed gearbox and Ariel's distinctive pressed-steel chassis construction. The sporting versions were capable performers for a lightweight 250 and today the Arrow family has a loyal following among enthusiasts of unusual post-war British motorcycles.
This particular bike presents very nicely and has bags of period character. From the photographs it features wire-spoke wheels, enclosed front hub treatment, whitewall-style tyres, full-width mudguards, chrome exhaust, large dual seat, tank knee pads and a period-style windscreen. The gold and cream finish suits the futuristic styling particularly well.
The motorcycle appears to have been restored or refinished at some stage and remains in very presentable overall condition, with only normal age-related marks and wear visible. The seat shows a little age around the front edge but remains very usable.
As with the other motorcycles from this collection, it has been in storage and is being sold as seen. It is believed to be a running machine, but we strongly recommend a full service, safety inspection and general recommissioning before road use, including checks to brakes, tyres, fuel system, ignition, fluids, controls and electrical system.
