I DON'T often say this in my adverts and, from memory, it is probably the first time I have said it during this current year. But if this specific car does not sell, then I shall transfer it into my private collection. In it are classics I have never really wanted to part with and, now that I am approaching 72-years-old, I will keep them!
Here is my 1971 Ford Escort with a recorded (and warranted by the owner who gave her some serious surgery in 2009) mileage of just 47, 000. Then, the owner - a professional classic car restorer - had this total beauty as his own personal car. He owned it for two years before moving it on to the next owner in 2011 from whom I have acquired it.
The work took place when the car had done just 39, 000 miles. This is not an exhaustive list but he fitted: Different camshaft, twin choke Weber, 4-branch exhaust, higher compression pistons, lead indium crankshaft shells, a lighter flywheel and a rebuilt gearbox to close ration GT spec.
I remember these little devils from first time around. although I could never afford one. However a friend had a new 1300 GT and it flew. So too does this. It is one amazing drive. The Escort that began life as a 1300 XL is now a 1300 GT, even down to the much wanted six-dial clock binnacle in front of the steering wheel. Another plus is that the engine remains the original (it was removed and rebuilt as a GT) and so the current engine number still matches the original on the V5. This is not a car that has been hacked about with, like so many Mark 1s, and had a God knows what lump dropped in it!
She has a superb shell, is great underneath and the engine just sings. The original interior (original XL spec) is delightful too.
