Description
The Mini needs little introduction, having become one of the most recognisable British cars ever produced. Designed by Alec Issigonis and launched in 1959 by the British Motor Corporation, its ingenious transverse-engine, front-wheel-drive layout allowed an exceptionally small footprint to provide surprisingly generous interior space. The Mini remained in production for more than four decades, evolving through numerous versions while retaining the unmistakable character of the original design.
Milestone Classics are delighted to offer this charming Austin Mini, first registered in February 1974, finished in classic red and with a particularly appealing history. What makes this example especially interesting is that, although the V5 records two former keepers, it has in fact remained within the same family from new. Originally purchased from P&S Cirencester Ltd, the Mini was subsequently owned by Mrs Ings before passing to Mr Ings, with the accompanying V5 documents providing a clear record of this family ownership.
The car has spent its life as part of a large private classic car collection and has been carefully kept in dry, climate-controlled storage, a significant benefit for any Mini of this era. Rather than passing through numerous hands, it has enjoyed the familiarity and care that comes with being retained within one family for over five decades.
The history file is a particularly pleasing part of the car. Included is the original Austin Service Booklet, stamped by P&S Cirencester Ltd when the car was sold, together with the period Mini User’s Manual, Radio Operating Instruction Manual and RAC booklet. There is also a substantial collection of MOT history, helping to document the car's continued use and ownership over the years.
Presented in its traditional red finish, this is an honest and characterful example of the classic Mini, with the added appeal of genuine long-term family provenance and a well-preserved history file. Cars with this sort of ownership story are becoming increasingly difficult to find, particularly when combined with long-term dry storage and supporting documentation.
A lovely example to add to a collection, or simply to enjoy as a quintessentially British classic.
