BODY STRUCTURE & PAINT:
Finished in gleaming Almond yellow paint, structurally the car is very solid in all the usual P6 rot spots. All the body panels are in lovely condition and the car is rock solid underneath with a sound base-unit. At some point in the cars life it has clearly been restored to a very high standard. Overall, the paintwork is in lovely condition with a deep shine. There are a few small areas in the paint that are not perfect, but it certainly isn’t the usual rust bucket! Over all it is lovely car in very good condition.
There is one small deviation from original in that when the car was restored, the previous owner had the engine bay painted body colour, instead of the usual Rover standard issue satin black. We think this adds a really nice touch and creates a talking point at all the classic car shows. It certainly makes the engine bay look a lot cleaner and shows off the big V8 engine off to it’s best.
INTERIOR & TRIM:
The interior is in a very honest, original, un-restored and un-molested condition. Trimmed in black leather with matching black carpets and complete with an original and working Radiomobile 8-track player, this car is as it rolled out of the factory some 39 years ago. Everything works as it should do and the car benefits from fully operational front and rear quaterlights. The car also benefits from the highly desirable factory optional “sports” style steering wheel.
ENGINE & DRIVETRAIN:
Powered by Rovers’ proven 3. 5 litre V8 coupled to the automatic gearbox with optional power assisted steering fitted from factory, makes for an ideal, relaxed driving experience.
It has never overheated, even in heavy traffic and the engine makes good oil pressure. The gearbox works effectively and changes up and down smoothly. The kickdown functions correctly and the oil / fluid in both the engine and gearbox is nice and clean
There are no untoward clunks, knocks, bangs or noises and the car drives exactly as it should.
BRAKES AND SUSPENSION:
All importantly the car stops very well and has had a full rear brake overhaul around 400 miles ago. The rear brakes on the P6 are inboard units making access a bit of a challenge and as a result, often neglected on some cars.
The handbrake works well and is very effective.
The suspension was fully rebuilt with all new bushes. Whilst this work was carried out, the car also received four new UJ’s for the drive shafts along with uprated munroe rear shock absorbers. As a result the car is a delight to drive and does not feel old and wooley like many 39 year old cars do! The original shock absorbers are included with the car should the new owner wish to revert back to standard.
BRIGHTWORK & EXTERIOR TRIM:
The chrome work is all in very nice condition. It is not perfect and there are a few pit marks but there are no dents in the bumpers.
The car also benefits from the highly desirable boot mounted spare wheel kit. The spare wheel can be mounted on the boot as per the photographs. The car is fitted with the correct boot lid to support the wheel and also has the kit to mount the spare wheel inside the boot.
The “Rover” badges as fitted to the bonnet and to the boot lid when the wheel is stowed inside the car are both in fantastic condition – these usually being the first things to suffer and delaminate on a neglected P6.
The car is fitted with stainless wheel trims which are all present and in very good condition.
PAPERWORK:
The car is MOT’d until the December and taxed until the end of May 2012. There were no advisory’s issued with the current MOT certificate, and I see no reason why the car shouldn’t fly through it’s next MOT.
We have some recent paper work for the car and the current registration certificate (V5c), even the various original engine bay stickers are all present and correct.
The car comes with two complete sets of keys.
SUMMARY:
To Summarise, this P6 3500 auto is a very honest, well-loved example of the marque. It has been restored and maintained to a very high standard and has had much money lavished on it in the past. It needs nothing more than using and enjoying over the coming summer months with a 70’s 8 track tape on the stereo and the V8 soundtrack burbling away from behind!
