Arrival at the store of a Ducati 500 Desmo Sport 1977 (2130 copies produced).
A rare machine, well-known by us as it has been in the hands of a good friend, Jean-Paul Decreton, a fan of Ducati, for about 26 years.
Yet it shows a fairly low mileage, but it must be said that Jean-Paul is spoiled for choice when he wants to run on one of Fabio Taglioni’s wonders…
Only 2130 copies of this beauty were produced, due to the concurrent announcement of the imminent release of the 500 Pantah, which will ultimately appear late in 1979!
Perhaps this is the vintage sporting and mid-displacement racer that cafe-racers lovers await today.
It has the Ducati style, a superb look, beautiful curves and can easily do the ton.
It has excellent driving qualities and a very nice jerky sound.
The 500 Desmo Sport (DM 500B model sport), following a 1975 prototype signed Leopoldo Tartarini (the boss of Italjet), was launched in 76 and differs from non Desmo model, GTL, in many ways.
To gain in stiffness the front tube of the frame is split and passes outside of exhausts, with reinforcements on the rise steering column on tapered bearings.
The shock absorbers and 35 mm fork are from Paioli.
The « Sport », whose design met much more success than that of the GTL, at first was proposed only in red with white stripes, but a blue and white version will be produced later for some countries.
It has a seat with a small backrest, black side panels, painted mudguards, and the drawing of the tank (in polyester on the first series) is superb.
Alloy 18″ wheels are provided by SPF and the rear received a disc brake.
Finally, the Sport adopts clipons and rearsets.
Conti exhausts were pretty expensive at that time, but many buyers made it mounted up by the brand’s agent, before even taking delivery, which was the case on the machine that we introduce today.
The engine lacks kickstart because of the rearsets.
Sold thanks to car and classic.
