EXTERIOR
This Ninemeister project provides a perfect insight into the Restomod principle – a svelte design finished with simple detail executed with incredible precision.
The car has been entirely stripped and painted from a bare shell with a new factory roof skin installed whilst a commitment to Original Equipment extends to new old stock steel front wings, bonnet and bumpers. The project focus was to always ensure the car did not purport to be something it wasn’t – the owner insistent on maintaining the narrow body and achieving an appearance much like the early 2. 4 S models.
As such, the car is as pretty in the flesh as the studio photography suggests with superb panel fit and bodywork finished in the exquisite Dolomite Grey.
INTERIOR
Upon cabin entry you are immediately met by that new car smell allied with the most wonderful Oxblood finish to seats, door cards and dash. Originality is retained where possible thanks to a full strip and refresh – new old stock carpets and a tight, unmarked headlining ensuring each detail as been accounted for. Dials, switch gear and vents are now housed in a perfectly stitched leather dashboard finished with a magnificent MOMO prototipo wheel.
A Porsche Classic Nav nestles into the dash as an OEM update with accompanying USB and Aux in for modern day connectivity.
Although the changes are many, there is a distinct harmony between the materials used and the technical skills involved in producing this fabulous 70′s backdate.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
A beautifully presented 3. 6 litre engine now resides under the deck lid; a perfect compliment of driveability and torque. Ninemeister isn’t typically in the business of keeping an engine stock and the top end now really sings, courtesy of RS cams and a subsequent remap. A rolling road print out indicates a rounded 320hp peak & 290lb/ ft torque.
The drivetrain is smooth and typically rewards that deliberate action through the gears.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
With a sensible size and offset Braid Fuchs fill the arches perfectly. Nearly new Contisport rubber offer plenty of life and a comfortable amount of sidewall to authentically reproduce driving dynamics.
The braking system has been treated to Boxster 4 pot calipers clamping 3. 2 Carrera discs in front.
As for handling, the car has evolved from it’s previously well sorted setup to new Bilstein Race inserts up front with Clubsport spec to rear. Turbo torsion bars, steering arms and spring plate bushes ensure a balance of grip and comfort.
HISTORY FILE
This superb 9m showcase was finished in late 2016 and has covered a mere 1, 700 miles with it’s one private owner.
All previous owners of the donor car are known; 9m’s own Colin Belton kept the car for some 13 years before selling to a friend who ran the car for a similar period before deciding to part with the car (fortunately coinciding with the current owner’s search for a suitable donor!).
A full book pack and fully stamped service book indicate a well maintained history prior to modern restoration. All spare keys are also present and correct.
