History of this car
This Giulietta was manufactured 24. 1. 1958 and sold new to South Africa in left hand drive configuration. The Alfa has been in the UK since 1963, with just 4 long term owners. According to the Alfa Romeo historical archive, the car was originally red.
We bought the car recently and it had an older repaint in grey. We have conducted a high quality repaint in nero, fitted new trim and conducted a mechanical freshening. Our Spider benefits from a Weber carburettor upgrade (original Solex with the car), a Veloce manifold and exhaust.
There is a large history file detailing £000s lavished on this beautiful example over the years.
Body
A real strength of the Alfa is the superb body and paint. In the past our car has had a photo documented bare metal body restoration and today the car has perfect panel fit, arrow straight sides and mirror finish paint in nero. Much of the chromework has been replated in the past and makes for a striking contrast against the black paint.
The chassis including sills and floors are all rock solid with a thin protective coating applied. The fuel tank has been restored and refinished in the past.
The windscreen is new, as are the sealing rubbers and most of the lights/ lenses.
The hood is an older quality cloth item in fair condition with undamaged rear screen.
Mechanics
This is a great driving Alfa, the matching numbers engine has running in miles since a receipted rebuild by Ian Ellis including pistons, liners, timing chain and a crank regrind. Fitted with a Veloce manifold (including engine mounts) and exhaust, it sounds great, and with the Weber carburettor goes even better.
We have rebuilt the braking system including fitting all new wheel cylinders, brake master cylinder and relined brake shoes. The upgrade Weber carburettor has been fully rebuilt and tuned. New Pirelli Cinturato tyres are fitted all round.
Not many miles ago the suspension received a lot of work and the car handles as it should.
A lubrication service has just been performed including greasing, changing oils and filters and replacing the spark plugs.
Interior
The centre piece of the interior are the gorgeous Veglia gauges which have been completely restored. The seats have been restuffed and new vinyl seat covers custom made, together with matching door cards. The spare wheel is in place with its tie down and a jack/ tool bag.
Boot
A new lock has been fitted and the boot is in unmarked condition, with correct matting and recently a heavy duty battery has been installed.
Summary
This example has got to be amongst the very best available, and is priced to sell quickly. It is also supplied with an original sales brochure and some lovely period touring guides.
