Beschreibung
The Carrera S models were launched for the 1996 model year and featured the powerful 285bhp Varioram engine, the wide body of the Turbo model together with a lowered chassis which gave them a very aggressive stance.
The 993 C2S is arguably the most desirable of the normally aspirated 993’s, with its driving experience purer than the C4S due to it weighing 25kg less, allowing it to be marginally quicker over a standing kilometre. It is nimbler on the road too and features lighter steering that gives a more communicative feel at the helm. The original 911 was rear-engined and rear-wheel drive with a manual gearbox, so it is fitting for this Porsche to stay true to its heritage, by being the last air-cooled version produced in a specification as originally intended.
This particular example was supplied new by AFN to Howard Greenhaigh on the 8th August 1997, finished in arctic silver metallic with black leather interior. The original bill of sale in the history file confirms it was a C16 UK RHD car and supplied with the following options.
Air Conditioning
Hard back sports seats
Third rear brake light
18” technology alloy wheels
PA1000 alarm system
Black Porsche overmats
Becker CDR21 audio upgrade
Crested wheel centres
24 hour tracker system
Amazingly the car has only covered a documented 9, 750 miles from new and unusually still wears its original factory paint including a few stone chips that you would expect of an unpainted 23 year old car.
We purchased this 993 from Mr Greenhaigh in 2016 as although he had owned it from new, it was not being used as intended.
We sold it to its 2nd owner Mr Brunning at 9, 355 miles who had originally come to see a cheaper 993 we had for sale, but knew he would regret not buying this exceptional example that had just arrived.
We refurbished the wheels, repainted the callipers red, replaced the original lenses, fitted an OE sports airbox and RS gearshift together with an RSR style rear silencer at his request, but left the rest of the car untouched.
However, after a year of ownership and the car approaching 10, 000 miles, he thought to preserve its value, he must stop using it.
We sold it very quickly to its current owner, a Porsche collector and it has remained in storage ever since. He now too realises that he will not get to use it as intended, hence the car is now available again.
If you have been searching for the best 993 C2S for your collection, this example finished in arguably the most desirable colour combination, together with the perfect specification and still under 10, 000 miles from new ticks every box.
Alternatively, the 993 was the last and most useable of the air-cooled 911s, so why not drive it as Porsche intended? Even with an additional 5, 000 miles a year, it will still have less than 20, 000 miles under its belt when it hits a quarter of a century. It also comes with bullet proof reliability and build quality, together with an analogue driving experience missing in today’s cars and guaranteed to hold its value far better than its modern equivalent.
