Description
This one owner example of Ford's iconic hot hatch was delivered on 1st August 1988, the first day of the new "F" registered cars. The original service book comes with the car and shows it was bought by a Mrs Janes from Horncastle Garage in Reading who at the time opted to pay for the 3 year "Extra Cover" extended warranty. Supporting documentation shows this was done with 16 miles on the clock.
Mrs. Janes (later Miss Elford), continued to keep the car serviced at the supplying dealer every 6 months as per schedule for the next 6 years, despite only covering 32, 000 miles during that time, evidence supported by the original service book. In addition to all other original booklets is every single MOT certificate from 1991 onwards.
Miss Elford continued to own the car until late 2017 by which time she had amassed a total of just under 62, 000 miles in 29 years making this a very rare example.
The car is unrestored and has been kept to its original specification throughout its life. It is consequently not concours and harbours some marks and blemishes that you would expect a car to pick up in nearly 30 years, but is is a very smart and solid example. Since coming to Bluechip Classics, we have carried out a gentle renovation of the Rosso Red paintwork and ensured that it is mechanically sound to ensure full enjoyment for the second owner. This includes a full service and a cambelt change for complete piece of mind.
It is unlikely the market will see an unrestored, one owner, 62k mile XR2 any time again soon. The car was displayed at the London Classic Car Show recently and drew a massive amount of attention, including a short piece of film by Quentin Willson and Jonny Smith and a small piece in Classic Car Weekly. No doubt, this attention will be something the new owner will have to get used to! Please feel free to contact us for more details or to arrange a viewing.
