The Appeal
The MG T-Series was a work of compromise and enthusiasm in equal measure. As the Second World War came to an end, American servicemen began their return to the USA - and often took MG's T-series sports cars with them. MG were still undergoing recovery, but wanted to seize hold of this emergent market as quickly as possible.
Without the time necessary to style a whole new car, they opted to stick with pre-war bodyshells, ash frames and upright grilles - which proved quite a selling point for those who had become enamoured with their signature English milieu. The result is that every one of MG's sports cars looked remarkably similar until the cultural keynote of the MGA.
Despite this, the TD did offer some fresh features upon the formula. This was the first of MG's cars to boast independent double-wishbone front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering, while the XPAG engine offered a top speed of around 82mph. It was eminently drivable - not a record breaker, but a car of very even temper.
This fine example was subject to an older restoration and still looks fabulous. The black paintwork is still resplendent, the brightwork shines beautifully and we understand that's ready and waiting to hit the road with its lucky new owner.

History and Paperwork
- First registered in 1951
- Restored by a previous keeper, complete with a new ash frame
- Only 3 former registered keepers before the current owner acquired it in November 2021
- Serviced by the current owner according to the MG service manual
- Sadly the car's paperwork file was reportedly stolen from a car show and is not available
The Condition
- Exterior paintwork presents in good condition overall
- Paintwork still has fabulous gloss
