1969 Jaguar E-Type Series 2 4.2L FHC RHD Eagle Classic

Highlights

  • Original RHD car in factory-correct colour scheme on D-Type wheels
  • Extensively upgraded across engine, gearbox, cooling and suspension by Eagle
  • Extensive history file dating back to original sales invoice
  • Current Voluntary MOT to October 2025 with no advisories
  • Will be sold with fresh service

The Appeal

Jaguar’s improvements to the E-Type were generally more cosmetic than mechanical. It has fallen to various model experts to exploit the car’s sporting potential. And they don’t get much more expert than Eagle.
This car was the 11th E-Type to receive the comprehensive Eagle Classic makeover. Undertaken in 2004 at a cost then of £32,000 (equivalent to £58,000 now), the work covered virtually every area of the car including engine, cooling, fuelling, suspension, gearbox, electrics and ignition system. Highlights from a very long list of improvements include a lightened and balanced engine with stainless big valve cylinder head and extensively upgraded brakes.
The vendor and a JDHT certificate confirm that the car remains a matching numbers engine model. It also sports its original factory colour scheme of light blue over a dark blue interior. The exterior has been attractively enhanced by a set of D-Type style alloys that give this elevated E-Type a great stance. The bodywork and interior present very well, with some light and minor points to note in photos.
The history file is vast and dates back to the car’s earliest days including the original bill of sale. More recently it has been maintained by classic and historic racing specialist Hawker Racing. It was last serviced 8 months ago but will be sold freshly serviced for the buyer’s peace of mind. There is also a lengthy voluntary MOT to October 2025 with no advisories.
The RHD FHC Series 2 E-Type is one of the most usable of the original shape cars. It is also rare too, with just 1,071 built. This car, with its blue chip Eagle provenance, must be one of the most enticing of the few remaining.
The vendor says:
“This is a highly original, and low owner car – just 3 owners from new, and has been in the hands of its current keeper for over a decade. It is accompanied by a substantial history file that documents its life from new, including the original dealer documents, servicing history, and full details of the Eagle conversion.
“It is rare to find in such original colours and with the added benefit of an early Eagle conversion, this is a fantastically well looked after matching numbers E-Type that offers excellent provenance, tasteful upgrades, and a fully documented history.
“The ultimate drivers E-Type. Engineeered and set up by Eagle to almost 'fast road' spec. Really, no other original road-going E-types like it, performance-wise.”

The Condition

  • Finished in its original factory Light Blue exterior over Dark Blue trim
  • Paintwork presents well with some minor blemishes and chips
  • These affect the edges of a couple of panels including scuttle and bonnet as shown
  • Some small chips approximately 1.5 inches long that could be touched up we are told
  • Bodywork is very good with flush door fit and well kept sills and arches
  • There is a small area of light bubbling to note to front nearside corner of bonnet as shown
  • Underside presents well with no advisories for structural on current MOT
  • Sits on smart D-Type style alloy wheels with centre knock-off spinners
  • Set of classic-style tyres in good condition as shown
  • Blue leather interior is factory-correct and very well kept with light patination
  • Vendor describes car as not concours level but presents well for a usable classic
  • Benefits from Eagle's full cavity wax protection treatment
  • Interior features Moto Lita E-Type-style wood-rimmed wheel
  • Classic DAB digital radio fitted
  • Some age to switchgear and dials as shown but not unsightly
Light Blue is a rare colour for the FHC Series 2, but a fetching one as this car shows. It is factory-correct and likely has received some paintwork during its life, but presents very well with only very minor age to note to some minor areas, none a cause for concern.
The blue leather interior is similarly lightly aged but highly presentable. It features a Moto Lita E-Type-style wheel and a modern classic-style digital radio.
With its D-Type style alloys this car has a great stance. It looks perfect as a car to use and enjoy, perhaps on a classic car rally or, with all those Eagle upgrades, a lengthy European road trip.

The Mechanics

  • 4,235cc straight six XK engine with Eagle upgrades
  • Factory 4spd fully synchromesh gearbox
  • Reported to be fitted with original engine matching JDHT records
  • Extensive Eagle makeover in 2004 detailed in photos
  • This work covered electrics, ignition, cooling, suspension and fuel system
  • Features lightened and balanced engine by Eagle to Eagle Classic specification
  • Engineered and set up by Eagle to almost 'fast road' specification
  • Appears in good mechanical condition with no reported issues
  • Will be freshly serviced prior to sale with few miles since last service 8 months ago
  • Features Eagle stainless steel exhaust with standard manifold
  • Also features Eagle custom propshaft
  • Extensively upgraded braking system by Eagle
  • Maintained by historic racing and engineering specialists 'Hawker Racing'
  • The vendor states this is one of the best engineered E-Types around for driving pleasure
A standard 4.2L XK E-Type is a truly great car. An Eagle E-Type, however, is considerably better. The Eagle Classic overhaul, which cost the equivalent of £58,000 in 2004, focused on extracting improved performance from the engine and enhancing the car’s drivability.
The engine has been lightened and balanced and fitted with a stainless steel big valve cylinder head. The vendor reports that it is very torquey with huge pull in fourth gear. The car is now fitted with a factory four speed gearbox . Elsewhere there is a custom Eagle propshaft and the electrics, ignition, fuelling, cooling and brake systems have all been upgraded.
The car has covered few miles since the Eagle work was completed. It was last serviced 8 months ago, with few miles since. It is a mark of the seller’s approach that it will be serviced again before sale to give the buyer extra peace of a mind. A voluntary MOT with no advisories provides further transparency.
