The Appeal
Credit to Triumph. The TR6 was a masterstroke, a clever update of an older model with crisp Michelotti lines and a grunty 2.5L straight-six engine featuring innovative fuel injection. No wonder these cars remain so popular today - few classics have the performance and fuss-free engagement of a good ‘6.
The trick to buying a TR6 is to find one that’s been restored, has been cherished since and is mechanically sorted, in particular the fuel injection system. This car ticks all of those boxes. Restored over three years between 2002 and 2005, a process described by the seller as ‘nut and bolt’ and which included many new panels. There was also a switch from blue to classic red. The car remains in superb condition today.
Much of the present quality is due to the current owner, who has held it since 2012. It has only racked up 15,000 miles since all the work, and even close inspection reveals few signs of use. Maintenance highlights since he purchased the car include a new boot floor, replacement classic tyres, fuel metering unit and injectors and a new washer motor.
There are some useful improvements, including a stainless steel exhaust system - we’re imagining the sound as we write this - and a performance air filter. You’ll also spot the smart Minilite-style alloys, upgraded cabin veneers and comfortable black leather seats with headrests.
This car is well-equipped for long drives. The current keeper is clearly fastidious, telling us that it has been serviced annually irrespective of mileage and MOT’d each, despite this no longer being a legal requirement. The last service was in July 2024 and the MOT runs to May 2026 with no advisories.
The vendor says:
“Good solid usable example of a classic TR6 that is ideal for summer driving. I love it, it puts a smile on my face when I drive it, as it drives well for the age of the car.”
