The Appeal
The H2 was and still is the best of the best. Incredibly quick, highly tactile and beautifully built, it is no surprise that it was a massive sales hit. From launch, it was the world’s best-selling 750cc two-stroke triple.
It was so powerful that after a few months, Kawasaki offered a slightly tamer version. That makes this bike very special indeed. It is one of the earliest H2s built, from the first few weeks of production, and retains the full power, high cut cylinders of these early models.
Like most H2s, it spent its life in the USA before being imported to the UK. The vendor acquired it from H2 guru Rick Brett in 2020 whilst it was in the USA and Rick took care of the shipping and registration. Few H2s have exactly matching frame and engine numbers, so the trick is to make sure they left the factory fitted together, rather than being a later assemblage of two bikes. Brett checked this and is confident this bike is ‘factory matched’.
It was bought as a restoration project, the vendor tells us that the subsequent renovation included entirely dismantling the bike, right down to removing every nut, bolt and component. Individual elements were then entrusted to specialists. The engine and gearbox went to Chapman Tyrrell Racing in Evesham to be rebuilt while the crankshaft was sent to Gary Clark. Each area of the bike was brought back to life with the focus being on making it ‘correct.’ It was refinished in its original colour Candytone Blue as used on all UK-registered H2s. It is largely standard except for halogen headlights and stainless steel spokes on the Takasago rims. It has covered only 200 miles since completion, most of that testing by CTR, and is still being fettled and run in.
The current condition is a testament to the vendor's care and enthusiasm. This is a sought-after early H2 in collector-quality condition with impeccable provenance.
