The Appeal

Porsche’s engineers couldn’t help themselves. They continuously tweaked the original 911, which gives buyers a plethora of choices when it comes to finding their ‘perfect’ model.
We gently suggest that for enthusiasts of the early cars, this is the one to have - the 911S with the 2.4L motor. These 190bhp cars feature numerous improvements to handling, engine and transmission. Plus they mix crisp early aesthetics with a great balance between power and poise.
This 1973 is well worth your attention. It is the high power ‘S’ model with the optional 5spd 915 dogleg box. Still correctly finished in Ivory White, it was originally supplied new to Italy in mid 1973 but has been in the UK since August 1974. It was converted to RHD in the 1990s. 
In the intervening years it has enjoyed track action - including at the Birmingham Super Prix in 1988 - and a full body restoration completed in 2018. After some years of dry storage it was thoroughly recommissioned by Porsche royalty, Autofarm, in late November 2024 at a cost of £7,000. The extensive record of work - shown in the photos - indicates that a full check over resulted in whatever needing to be done, being done. 
The car has been in the possession of the current keeper since 2004 and has amassed a vast history file since its arrival in the UK. This includes a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and details of the car’s racing history. 
It is a largely standard car with the addition of Sparco buckets and a set of harnesses. The 911S 2.4 is a gem of the air-cooled era, and this is a well-sorted car in great order. It’s ready to be enjoyed - and we’re sure the buyer will.

The Condition

  • Handsome Ivory White which is factory correct and in good overall condition 
  • Bare metal body restoration and respray in 2018 with few miles covered since

  • These include light bubbling to edge of passenger door and edge chips to driver’s door and sill 
  • There are some other light marks and stone chips but they do not detract overall 
  • The chrome trim to the rear screen is slightly loose as shown 
  • Exterior fittings including bumpers, chrome, lights and glasswork all present well 
  • Car sits on smart polished Fuchs which are in good order but have centre caps missing 
  • Factory correct steel spare wheel included 
  • Factory standard exterior with black rear Porsche lettering 
  • Largely standard 911S interior with addition of Sparco buckets and harnesses
  • Interior in black and good overall condition including carpets and door cards
  • Dashboard, dials and switchgear present very well for a 51 year old car
  • Converted from left-hand drive (LHD) to right-hand drive (RHD) in the 1990s
  • Fitted with a Martini Racing three spoke leather-rimmed wheel 
  • Underside presents well with no structural issues reported
  • We understand that the electrics and switchgear work correctly 
The first owner of this 911S chose well - Ivory White is a great colour for the car. It is a rare find but neatly accents the light drizzle of chromework and those lovely polished Fuchs. Details such as the black rear Porsche badge are clever touches. 
Due to the extensive restoration completed in 2018 The bodywork and paintwork are both in very good condition. The car has largely been dry stored since then. There are some minor points to note - detailed above and in photos - but these don’t detract and are well within what could be reasonably expected of an older restoration.
Inside the interior is largely standard save for a nod to the car’s racing history in the form of those purposeful Sparco buckets with their bright blue harnesses. We think they add to the allure but of course they could be easily removed and the original interior reinstated if the buyer requires.

While we’re big fans of the whale-tail era of mammoth 911 power, we have a soft spot for the 911S because it is real-world quick and usable. With 190bhp from its fuel injected ‘2.4L’ flat six engine - in reality 2,341cc - it is quick. And, thanks to suspension revisions applied by Porsche to this model, it is agile and surefooted too. 
This car is reported to be matching numbers - there is a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity - and the vendor tells us that the low displayed mileage is correct and genuine. During the car’s life, as the photos show, it has been lightly raced, evidently with some considerable success. 
In recent years the vendor - who bought the car in 2004 - has used it very sparingly and it has largely been in dry storage. To prepare it for sale it was sent to Porsche specialist Autofarm in late November 2024. Autofarm conducted a full health check and undertook all necessary work - you’ll find a summary of that activity above and a more detailed invoice in the photos. 
The result is a well sorted, low mileage, honest 911S that will arrive with the buyer freshly overhauled and requiring nothing.
