The Appeal
While red may be the quintessential colour for an Italian sports car, we must say that this rather wonderful shade of Verde Inglese (English Green) looks absolutely scintillating on this UK-supplied right-hand drive Series 2 Alfa Romeo Spider. The so-called 'Coda Tronca' was Alfa's first revision of its 105/115 Spider platform, introducing a truncated rear, adding windscreen rake and modernising the interior. The result was a car more aerodynamically stable, more practical and better to drive than its 'Duetto' predecessor, so it's no wonder that many consider the Series 2 as the sweet spot in the Spider lineage.
Having been in the care of the current owner since 2011, this Spider has been cherished and maintained while used sparingly, covering just 1,000 miles per year on average and being stored in a garage away from inclement weather.
With recent mechanical work including renewed brake servos and fresh discs and pads, alongside cosmetic improvements such as a new mohair hood, this Alfa Romeo has a great deal to offer for those looking for the ideal summer classic.
The vendor summarises:
"This is a beautiful car and always attracts attention. I've displayed it a number of times including the ITCAM events at Newby Hall. The Nord engine is a strong, willing engine and can easily keep up with modern traffic (and occasional out-perform it!). It has a lovely sweet-spot around 2500-3500 revs. It's an Alfa - what's not to love about it!"
