The Appeal
1976 saw Rover step into bold, daring territory. Intended as a replacement for both the Rover P6 and the Triumph 2000, this impressive fastback may have boasted remarkable Daytona-inspired styling, but actually rationalised, too. Doing away with the complicated P6 suspension and using a simple live rear axle instead, it was clear that the car was being focused on what actually impressed the consumer rather than the autmotive press - indeed, the often rather luxurious cabins of their previous executive cars now took a decidedly industrial feel.
This 2300 model from 1982 offers the SD1's distinctive styling and spacious interior in a more economical package than its V8 siblings. What makes this particular example special is its low mileage of just 35,468 miles and its well-preserved state, having been garage-stored by all three of its owners.
Imported to Ireland from the UK in 2007 with just 29,819 miles on the clock, this SD1 has been used sparingly and dry stored since 2018, making it an increasingly rare survivor in largely original condition, defying many Leyland products of this time period and defining just how special a classic the SD1 truly is.
