The Appeal
Aside from its considerable performance, this 1991 300CE AMG is a really important car. It was the first AMG-tuned Mercedes-Benz available to the public and led directly to the tuner’s models being featured in factory showrooms. Here is where the Mercedes AMG legend really began.
Just 25 of these cars were built and each one received extensive modifications by AMG, which was still an independent company at that point. Notable the M104 straight six engine was bored out to 3.3L - nominally called a ‘3.4L’ - and extensively fettled to deliver a power hike of 50bhp over the standard 3L to 272bhp. Elsewhere, the specification included a full AMG body kit, lovely Monobloc alloys and an uprated interior.
The history file and ‘990’ engine code confirm that this car is a genuine AMG model. It is one of the earliest examples built and was first registered in Germany, before transferring to Sweden. It is now in Belgium. Finished in handsome Blue-Black metallic with a full black leather interior, it is in really fine condition. Notable recent work includes a full respray in the correct factory colour and €4,700 work, including timing chain.
The AMG story is a key part of Mercedes-Benz’s modern development, and it began here. With just 25 built, you’re unlikely to find another soon. This is one for the discerning collectors.
The vendor says:
The car is in excellent mechanical condition and it starts, accelerates, and brakes perfectly.
No unusual noises.
“Personally, I really like the sound of this engine and the timeless lines of this beautiful coupe. Also, the pillar-less profile once the front and rear windows are down. And everything that makes cars from the 80s and 90s so charming :).”
