The Appeal
The Advance Design Chevrolet trucks of 1947–1955 are among the most recognisable and beloved American pickups ever produced, and the 3600 is the connoisseur's choice. Where the ubiquitous half-ton 3100 tends to dominate the scene, the 3/4-ton 3600 offers a nine-inch longer bed and beefier suspension — a more purposeful, more imposing truck that commands attention.
Sometimes, though, a car simply has a story so loaded in Americana it's hard to resist. Originally based in Kingman, Arizona, it spent its working life serving the Panmore gold mine, running errands into town - and the mine's logo remains faintly visible on the bonnet to this day. When the mine closed in 1971, the truck was parked up and sat undisturbed for 35 years before being acquired by an Englishman living in Arizona in 2006. It eventually made its way to the UK in 2016 after the current owner spotted it whilst driving Route 66 and fell in love at first sight.
That patina, that unmodified presence, and uniquely American personality all makes for a deeply engaging truck; a real hard-earned appearance you simply couldn't get elsewhere. Beneath that honest exterior, however, sits a thoroughly modernised drivetrain fitted within the last 5,000 miles, ensuring the truck is ready to be used and enjoyed on modern roads.
