The Appeal

Did he or didn’t he? That’s the big question with this remarkably preserved early NSX. At Suzuka race track at the NSX’s 1991 Japanese press launch, Ayrton Senna, the man who was instrumental in the development of Honda’s ‘New Sports Experimental,’ drove a 1991 JDM Auto NSX Na1 in Kaiser Silver. Just three Kaiser Silver NSXs in that spec and colour made that year, and this car is one of them, giving a one in three chance that the great man sat where the lucky buyer will now sit.
Aside from that tantalising prospect, there are many reasons to want this example of Honda’s incredible Maranello-beater. It spent its life in Japan until 2023 where it enjoyed the nation’s famously high maintenance standards and cossetting salt-free roads. It is said ot be highly original, including the paintwork. Since buying it and moving it to Ireland, the seller has used it sparingly as part of his collection but maintained it impressively. Recent work includes engine-out preventative maintenance such as cam belt and water pump change, replacing various seals, full fluids check and a service. The car has also been converted to the manual steering rack, a change recommended by the owners' club.
The large history file supports the displayed mileage of 58,120km (36,114 miles). There is also a recent Irish National Car Test certificate valid to June 2027.
The NSX was a game-changer, the first supercar you could genuinely use daily. This rare, original and low-mileage car, with its recent maintenance, is a genuine collector-grade opportunity.
The vendor says:
“Driving this car, it is easy to sense Ayrton Senna’s input and indeed understand why he loved the Na1 so much, continuing to use his personal example even after Honda left McLaren and F1, and McLaren switched to Cosworth engines. It is known that at Suzuka race track in Japan in 1991, at the press launch, Ayrton Senna drove a 1991 JDM Auto NSX Na1 in Kaiser Silver. There were only 3 NSX of that spec and colour made that year. We have tried to get confirmation via the NSX owners club of the exact car used. We were unable to, even though their contacts at the Japanese owner's club, so we can’t prove it was or wasn’t our car. Honda never revealed the chassis numbers of the cars used. Still, it has been nice driving this and thinking there is a 1 in 3 chance that Senna sat where we sat.”

The vendor says:
“It is on Irish registration plates and documents with all VAT and duties paid on arrival from Japan. I understand this qualifies it for transfer to a UK plate.
“This example was a factory order for the Japanese Market. These cars are revered in Japan and it obviously led a very pampered life, arriving here in pristine condition in 2023 with just a little over 50,000 km.
“Growing up with my Dad as a mechanic, cars were always a source of awe and wonder. The day job took a different route, fixing people and not cars, but the passion has remained. The NSX began as the ultimate poster car for me as a child and 25 years of classics, joined by my wife for the better part of those years, led us to this NSX. Two little girls just don’t fit in the NSX, so time for someone else to enjoy it. It has always been cherished and all the clichés fit. Anyone that views the car will immediately see what they are dealing with. It is stored in a temperature-controlled garage. It has been detailed beautifully and is ready to drive away. I would welcome any inspection and can also arrange a lift inspection if required. We are located in Waterford, Ireland, approximately 90 mins from Dublin and Cork airports and about 60 mins from Rosslare Harbour.
“We specifically sought out an Auto example. It meant we could buy the best example available, without the Manual premium. Also, for us, it meant an Auto example was less likely to have had a hard life and more likely to have retained its originality. I smile when I hear the criticism of the Auto, and wonder if these critics have ever actually driven one. The box is excellent, extremely responsive, and enjoyable. I often think the manual is the car you’d like your mate to buy so you can have a blast and a rev in, but the Auto is the one to live with and enjoy, often better cared for.. and you can have 70k left over to buy something else with!
“We went a little OTT when the car landed with us from Japan in February 2023. Having previously having had a nightmare when a low mileage Porsche 944S broke a timing chain and spent many months being repaired, we went all out with this one. The car presented and drove perfectly and was obviously very well cared for. It had benefited from a full LED light upgrade, giving excellent vision on the rare occasions it has been driven at night. Cosmetically, it had sustained paint scratching to the roof and bonnet, and this was tended to by Davy Pickard, Waterford, who did an amazing job. Like all the best paint jobs it is imperceptible.
“We then made the decision to do full preventative maintenance and cover absolutely everything. This was orchestrated by the fantastic Padraic Bolger at Bolger’s Garage and his colleague Sean. Guidance and parts came from Chirsian Mittendorfer of ATR Racing Parts. Everything was OEM.
“I have all the removed original parts boxed and in the boot as you will see in the photos. If, for example, you examine the hoses, you will see they were actually perfect; we just took the opportunity to do everything. We then fitted €500 worth of new Yokohama rubber at 53,029 km. I still have the tyres that came on the car, they were virtually new Sailun Atrezzo Elite tyres. I preferred the tread pattern on the Yokohamas, and it was Yokohamas that were fitted to the original test cars in 1989. I’m happy to pass the other set with the car to the new owner. I remember our surprise on discovering the Honda specification of 15 inch wheels and slender 205 tyres at the front, and beefier 225 tyres and 16 inch wheels at the back. I have since learnt that this was Honda’s way of reducing unsprung weight and to maximise the front footwell space in the slender nose.
“We have enjoyed showing the car at several events, including the Supercar Show at Dundrum, Dublin in 2023 and at Johnstown Castle in 2024.
“Our membership of the NSX owners club has been renewed in November 2025. This includes invites to various events across Europe, including Silverstone. Membership is fully transferable to the new owner.

The Condition

  • Kaiser Silver paintwork, 1 of only 3 examples produced in this colour in 1991
  • Mostly original factory paint throughout
  • Paint correction carried out to the roof and bonnet by Davy Pickard, Waterford
  • Light marking to clear coat at sides, more noticeable around the air intakes on closer inspection
  • The vendor reports the underside is free from corrosion
  • Full LED light upgrade carried out prior to import
  • Pioneer AVH-A240BT head unit fitted with Bluetooth, smartphone mirroring, USB, auxiliary input, and CD player
  • Yokohama tyres fitted at 53,029 km
  • Spare set of Sailun Atrezzo Elite tyres included
  • New Bosch long-life wipers fitted
  • Stored in a temperature-controlled garage
  • Custom Yutai Huatu car cover included
  • Black leather interior in original condition with few signs of use
The vendor says:
“The underside is exceptional. Those who worked on her loved that every nut and bolt released with ease as everything was completely corrosion-free.
“Next was the Stereo upgrade. Having grown up in the 1980’s this was always on the cards for our dream car. The result is the excellent fitting Pioneer AVH-A240BT with full Bluetooth connectivity, 1080 HD screen, Smartphone Mirroring function, USB and Auxillary input, and of course, a CD player for the nod to old school.
“The Japanese owner was kind enough to leave a custom Yutai Huatu cover in the car and we are happy to pass on the favour.
“If you had to pick on the car, it is very difficult. The car still has mostly the original factory paint, testament to how well it has been minded. There is some light marking in places to the clear coat at the sides of the car, this is more noticeable at the air intakes on either side, when you crouch down and look toward them. It never bothered us and certainly wasn’t bad enough to warrant correction, and we are pretty fussy.”

The vendor says:
“Mechanically the car has always been at perfection. It genuinely does sit as a car that could be used daily. I do wonder if all the expenditure we lavished upon it was even necessary, apart from the steering rack, but it does give the next owner serious reassurance that everything is just right.”
