The Lancia Montecarlo is a mid engined, two seater sports car designed by Pininfarina. My example is a very original and unmolested UK car from 1982 in excellent condtion. It has historic car status - no MOT, Road tax and ULEZ exempt and lives in a dry garage in Acton. It has been restored Initially by Lance Ginns and subsequently by the Montecarlo Guru Darren Cooksey. No corners were cut or expense spared on the engine, running gear and electrics (all working). The interior is very good for the age and very original. It drives, handles and breaks beautifully. The Achilles heel of these cars is rust, I was lucky apart from some very minor rust (see details below) the underside of the car (sub frames, sills, etc.) are fine – it only comes out on dry summer days. The paint has been sympathetically resprayed in places to colour match. It does have some easy to sort rust bubbles. This is a very reluctant sales – this was my have forever classic but my circumstances have changed. The exterior is is very good condition with some minor bubbles above the right hand rear arch, I have had a sympathetic body respray to colour match the faded original paintwork, whilst as the same time leaving it as honest and original as possible. The external trim re sprayed and broken elements replaced. In short it looks gorgeous with small small age related blemishes, I am happy top provide additional pictures. No evidence of any accidents.
Underside a corroded section below n/ s headlamp was cut out and repaired. Scrape and wire brush removing all loose underseal, Shutz bare metal areas, cover with black Waxoyl with final coat of clear Waxoyl. Replaced missing grommets. The interior is wonderfully original and in excellent condition, everything works, after much investment. The steering column cowling was broken and replaced along with the faulty flasher relay. , The heater was repaired and the fan resistor replaced. Refit driver’s footrest and secure loose trims. Repair driver’s door lock. Repair car horn - wiring replaced, strip and free off seized air horn pump. The air con unit was removed it comes with the car. No after market items fitted. This UK has had 10 owners, it has a MOT . I have a record of all the work I have carried out on the car and all the work carried out by the previous owner . It has historic car status. Cooling system
Engine cooling system has been flushed and recharged with new coolant. The expansion tank has been replaced with an aluminium unit, together with a new water pump. The system has been checked and cooling fans work as they should and there are no leaks.
Suspension, brakes and running gear.
Front and rear suspension bushes replaced with polybush units. TMH uprated springs fitted all round. Front shock absorbers replaced. Steering rack bush has been replaced, together with wheel bearings.
Brake master cylinder replaced, new rear discs, new braided hoses, and brake calipers serviced. New tyres all round. Tracking and wheel alignment checked.
Engine, carburation, and engine bay
Cylinder head has been rebuilt with regrind and reseat of valves. New, valve guides fitted. Main bearings checked and were fine. Worn big end shells replaced along with associated big end bolts and other fixings. New cambelt, clean strainer and lower engine internals, fresh oil and new filter. New Guy Croft head gasket fitted. Starter motor and alternator reconditioned. Fit new spark plugs and HT leads. New fuel pump fitted.
Full Carb strip, clean, recondition with larger primary and secondary jets. This and Guy Croft racing exhaust giving better throttle response. Original air filter system retained but with performance air filter.
Exhaust
Standard exhaust unit replaced with new sports Guy Croft Stainless Steel exhaust incorporating 4-2-1 manifold. All parts from Monte Hospital. Wrap new inox manifold with heat resistant wrap cloth to protect surround areas and components from heat.
