1989 Ford Escort RS Turbo S2, 90 Spec, Mercury Grey – Fully restored

Hi, and thanks for taking the time to look at my listing for this 1989 Ford Escort RS Turbo S2, finished in Mercury Grey metallic.

I’m selling this car on-behalf of a family member who has spent much time and money on restoring this RS over the last 10 years. His vision was to get the car not only back to factory original, but to get as close to new as possible by replacing as many parts and components as possible with “new old stock” (nos) items – either located directly from Ford or from other sources (eBay, Passion Ford forum, RS Owners club, nos parts specialists etc.). Bodywork – the car was stripped back to the shell, which was then taken back to bare metal, including having the chassis sand blasted. All the panels are Ford factory originals. The bodywork has been restored and repainted by classic car specialists CBR Motorbodies at great expense. Interior – all door handles, locks, actuators are brand new. Electric window switches are new, electric mirror control is new. New steering wheel and horn push. Brand new original spec radio and front speakers. Digital clock and interior lights are all new. New head lining, new sunroof blind. New, genuine, floor carpet. Original Recaro’s, original door cards – not restored.

When the car came into the family it was showing 53k on the clock. The instrument pack has been replaced with new clocks and gauges, but we still have the speedo that was fitted to the car and this will be supplied to the new owner.

The car was bought with a standard screen fitted (the heated item had long since been replaced). An original heated screen was sourced, but it wasn’t new and there are some very minor marks on it. Try as we might we could not locate a NOS heated screen, so the used one is currently fitted. As a consequence, the rear-view mirror has not been fitted back to the screen. A new item comes with the car, and the new owner is free to either fit a new standard screen (they are still available) or locate a good quality heated screen. All the other glass is original, and still has the correct etching from the dealer.

All locks have been replaced to the original key numbers, except the petrol cap lock. A new lock mechanism is supplied with the car for the cap that fits the correct keys. Otherwise a separate key is used for the petrol cap. The cap is new, the lock is not. The car comes with lots of receipts from the restoration, some paperwork from prior. The original book pack, including service book, is present along with two keys.
The MOT expires in July 2023.

The car will be supplied with a service kit, containing new oil filters, air filter, spark plugs etc. These are all genuine Ford items, correct for the vehicle. A pen drive will also be supplied that features photos of the restoration.

I would politely request that only genuine parties contact me, tyre kickers and time wasters will quickly be ignored. Please no stupid questions, I’m not interested in “swaps” or “trades” of any kind, thank you. This will be a private cash sale through bank transfer only. NO overseas enquiries.

Note, the car is still SORN, and we had no immediate plans to tax the vehicle, and that will remain the case now the decision has been made to sell. In terms of use, that will be down to the next owner’s prerogative. Mechanical – the engine has been stripped and rebuilt with all new and original Ford gaskets and parts, including gaskets, cam shaft, water pump, cam belt etc. The turbo is an original Garrett item, supplied by Turbo Technics. All the turbo pipes are nos, as are many of the other hoses.
The gearbox has been stripped, cleaned and rebuilt using all original Ford items, including a brand-new linkage.
Fuel injection – the metering head has been rebuilt and set-up by Bosch Jetronic specialists KMI and will run unleaded petrol no problem. All injectors are new Bosch items, even the injector pipes are nos, along with new accumulator and new Bosch regulator. The fuel pump is a new Bosch item and it’s worth mentioning the fuel pump cradle, tank and sender unit are all nos items. The air cleaner box is also a nos item.
Electrical – the loom was extensively overhauled to remove a 90s alarm system, the main bulkhead fuse board has been rewired and replaced (again with a nos item), and all the major fuses and relays have been replaced. All the lamps are brand new Ford / Carello items, including the spot lights. Alternator and start motor are new Bosch items. Both the engine management and fuel ECU’s are brand new.
Brakes – pads, discs, shoes and calipers are all new Ford. Brake booster, and master cylinder are new. Brake pipe is original green steel, direct from Ford. Laden valves are new as well.

Wheels – alloys have been restored by JP Alloys of Cannock, centre caps are new, tyres are new Michelin rubber, the spare wheel is a brand-new original Ford alloy – never fitted.

The ABS system is fitted to the car to retain authenticity but has been by-passed for the sake of reliability. Again, this can be easily put back into service if the new owner wants
