Description
Up for sale here is a beautiful 1952 Triumph Mayflower. First registered on 2nd December 1952 in Inverness, the registration is the original.
This Mayflower has covered less than 60, 000 miles, with all paperwork to prove it. She comes with a large file of papers, including decades worth of Tax discs and old MOTs, and she even has her original workshop manual – a book that is now over 70 years old!
The car itself remains largely original. I am told that the all steel body has been repainted on a number of occasions. The chap we bought this from was a mechanic who restored classic cars and we are told that this is a very solid and straight example with no welding required and the chassis being spot on. She very recently had an expensive (and extensive) engine rebuild, having been re-bored, new pistons fitted, reground crankshaft, lead free valve seats and new valves fitted, new timing chain, etc. All has been pressure tested and surfaces skimmed. New brake master and front wheel cylinders, shoes, flexy pipes, new suspension bump stops and much, much more, including new radial tyres.
The interior is also in pretty good shape, with recent headlining and carpets. Many pictures of the restoration work are included in the sale.
The Mayflower is a rare sight nowadays with only 35, 000 having been produced between 1949 and 1953, 70% of which were exported. About 120 remain in use, most of which are meant to be in Australia and New Zealand where they were quite popular. They are a very rare but wonderful sight in the UK!
It is of course MOT and tax exempt due to its age.
In summary, this is a rare survivor which can either be used as it is or, depending on your preference, you could also have the body fully restored. The car is available for viewing by appointment in Quedgeley, Gloucester and payment will be by bank transfer or cash on collection only.
Please note that I have described the car to the best of my knowledge but give no undertaking as to its suitability for use on the road. Due to its age, it is sold with no warranty implied or given. In short, the buyer is responsible for confirming the condition of the car prior to purchase and for making adequate provision to transport it home safely and legally.
Thanks for looking. Any questions, please ask.
