Beschreibung

This is R860130 a 1948 Land Rover, number 130 off the line, dispatched out on 16 September 1948.
This Land Rover really is as original as it gets. The chassis and bulkhead/ firewall are extremely rot free, due to living a life in Western Australia.
#130 was discovered around 20 years ago in remarkable complete original condition. This find was recorded in the Land Rover Register 1948-1953 club newsletters, called Full Grille

These are the original major components.
* Engine 860207, radiator dated 8/ 48, carb E48, distributor, starter and dynamo are all dated 48
* Gearbox 860209,
* Front axle 860112
* Rear axle 86010*
* Both differentials are the correct 4. 88 ratios

Key features: Early production seats used on all the pre-production vehicles and the first 150 production vehicles. Windscreen has the wide centre rib, this is quite late to feature on #130, but is a nice early 48 feature. The original body work, which had been repaired and not replaced. When #130 was bought by the first Land Rover collector (Bob) in 2003 he soon realized that this vehicle was in such an original condition, he wanted to preserve rather than restore. But already, by his own admission, he made some mistakes. These were getting the wheels cleaned, repairing the wings/ guards to a high standard, and getting some of the electrical items repaired.

Some 6 years passed, and the situation arose where R860130 found a new home. Some more time passed before the new owner set about finishing the stalled restoration. A restoration that was of the same theme that has been started with Bob, to carry on and REPAIR - NOT RESTORE OR REPLACE.

The recommission of R860130 was completed by August 2017, as reported in the Land Rover Register 1948-1953 newsletter (full grille) at the time.
#130 was brought up to full Western Australian Road condition. For the next few years #130 attended many local shows in Western Australia.
Fast forward to 2022 and it was decided to give the original engine a full rebuild. With the view of attending the 2023, 75th Land Rover celebrations in Cooma, NSW, some 4000kms from Perth, WA.
So, this year, time came to set off, 4000Kms to Cooma. NOT trailered - but driven.
R860130 was the oldest Land Rover at Cooma and was probably one of the furthest driven to the event. A credit to the vehicle and the owner and fellow driver.

So R860130 is a seriously sorted 1948, 80”. Exceptionally original, and a very early example of a 1948 Land Rover.
The vehicle is currently located in Perth, Western Australia. We understand that the world is a smaller place, and it if the right person wants this remarkable vehicle, then it can go wherever is needed in the world and help with this can be offered.
