Descrizione
Here we go. Firstly, this is my own private sale, not a Company/ Dealer sale.
This is a 1954 Chevy 3100 Pick Up that I purchased direct from a private seller in Texas back in 2011 where it had spent most of its life. Accordingly, the bodywork / chassis are in excellent structural condition.
I am the first and only registered owner since it arrived in the UK. It is fully registered with a UK V5, declared Historic Vehicle and issued with a non transferable age related number plate, all done back in 2011.
This 1954 Chevy 3100 model was only made for a one year period, so a bit rarer than the models prior or after.
It is still fitted with the original Chevy 3. 8 straight 6 engine but is now equipped with a non standard Clifford inlet manifold and single barrel Holly Carb plus electronic ignition with uprated coil.
Its in the same Ford colour blue as when I got it.
I had occasion to replace the original 3 speed column change gearbox and torque tube set up with a complete new transmission set up consisting of a 1980's Chevy Blazer 5 speed box ( 2nd hand ), 1955 Chevy rear axle ( 2nd hand ), new bespoke prop shaft, new matching clutch. This is an excellent, easy to use set up and far superior to any original.
A total list of parts and work carried out, in no particular order but much of it recent, is as follows:
New original style rear bumper and brks replacing horrible aftermarket item previously fitted.
New rear shocks, new rear leaf springs and associated fittings.
New handbrake cables.
New front shocks, new anti roll bar kit, uprated 2nd hand leaf springs and associated fittings.
New bespoke stainless steel exhaust system from down pipes back.
New generic wiring loom, fuse box, indicator stalk switch, various other switches.
New rear lights, new interior light, new fuel tank, brkts, sender unit & gauge.
Cab stripped out, sound proofed with Dynamat, new headlining, new carpets and sound deadening underlay, seats reupholstered in brown / tan leather with matching door cards, new door hinges, new door and cab seal rubbers, new tinted windscreen and new screen rubber, new wiper blades & arms, new cab mountings front & rear.
Front disc brake conversion ( done prior to my ownership ), 12v Alternator conversion ( done prior to my ownership ), new higher capacity cooling radiator fitted ( prior to my ownership )
New Coker crossply whitewall tyres and plain steel rims.
It doesn't have a heater and I've never missed it having one. They are an easy retrofit if you want one.
The original speedo does not work due to the change of gearbox set up, so I use a phone app.
There are various minor scuffs, scratches, dents, cracked door glass but it kind of adds rather than detracts from its looks. Its a great useable, reliable truck ready to go and enjoy and there's a big "scene" for this type of classic, check out The Hayride event.
An appreciation of older vehicles would be recommended, thats not to excuse it any way, just remember thats its effectively a 69 year old commercial vehicle of its day and doesn't handle like a new Transit !!
Its happiest bumbling along at between 50-60 mph on decent roads, which lets face it, is about the average speed of traffic nowadays anyway.
I've had many so called classic or specialist vehicles in my time but none have ever received the positive response from random people as much as this does, its just a friendly vehicle that puts a smile on peoples face.
I've really enjoyed owning it, working on it and I will be sad to see it go but an affliction with expensive classic Jaguars means that some of my "fleet" needs to go and this a contender.
