This camper, imported from Australia in 2012, purchased by us in 2014 has undergone a fully documented 2 year nut and bolt restoration at the hands of renowned VW specialists South West Splitz who are based in Devon just outside Exeter.
The list of works is endless, and it probably took over 2 years, but includes:
Rolling shell media blasted and bare metal re-spray in a (non VW) but period colour
New Glass / Door rubbers and sliding window, opening quarter lights
MCJ Stainless and wood steering wheel
VDO MPH clock set (original was KMH) plus the very rare time clock
New colour co-ordinated canvas fitted to pop top
Rebuilt engine and Gearbox new twin carburettor
Rolling road engine tune at Rawspeed engineering, measured at 55hp
Stainless steel exhaust
New Load rated tyres
Retrimmed interior in ivory with contrasting turquoise piping
Type approved ¾ Rock and roll bed with 2 seat belts
Fully fitted cabinets in ivory and beech veneer including overhead
locker at rear and handy shelf above kitchen area
LED interior lighting
Stainless steel sink and 3 burner gas hob (only ever used to boil a kettle – no cooking smells in here, thank you very much)
Vitrifrigo compressor fridge with ice box
Leisure battery with split charge relay and 240 volt hook up
Bamboo effect flooring and removable carpet mats
Tow bar with electrics (only used to carry bike rack)
Since the refurb has been completed, we’ve been all over Devon and Cornwall on local trips plus longer adventures to the Lake District, The Peak district, The Cotswolds, Pembrokeshire and even down to the Vendee region in France (highly recommended). However, the sad fact is that we just don’t have the time to give it the use it deserves and we could really use the space and money for a building project we’re about to commence.
This bus has only covered 7500 miles since the rebuild, this is a great opportunity for someone to own a properly sorted bus without the heartache (and the waiting time) of getting it done yourself.
You could probably find one cheaper, but I doubt you will find many better.
