What a lovely example this is! A 1985 lotus eclat excel, presented in bright red with cream leather. This one is the best of both worlds in my opinion, the earlier style leather interior but fitted with the later high compression 180bhp s. e engine. The lotus was subject to re-comissioning in 2015, which included a full engine rebuild. Since the rebuild the lotus has been used sparingly, having covered just 5k miles. I sold this lotus in january to a rather affluent chap in the f1 world wit. A large collection of rare classic cars, he had his fun and decided to thin out his collection which necessited the sale of the lotus. Once i found out he was planning on selling i had no hesitation in purchasing her as i know how much of a great car this one is. With excel s. e prices soaring this now represents good value for money.
98, 000 miles on the clock, and she has covered those miles very well indeed. Starts without fuss, idles well, the carbs are set up properly with no 'bogging down' under load, no smoke or untoward noises to mention while driving, a quick turn of pace when required and the legendary lotus handling which even compared to modern standards is a cut above. Simply put, she starts, idles, accelerates, handles and brakes all as you would expect, and possibly better. We have a box file of service history with lots of previous mots, some servicing bills, parts replacement invoices and photo documentation of the engine rebuild in 2015.
the bodywork is very straight and honest, no nasty dents or deep unsightly scratches to mention. Shes not new of course, in fact she is almost 40 years old! There are some imperfections here and there as to be expected. The paintwork is lovely and bright, she retains its glossy shine all around and really looks an eyeful. Certainly turns heads everywhere she goes. An 80's sports car in bright red with pop up head lights, what more could you want?
the interior is also in fine fettle for her age, nothing untoward to report, no rips or tears to the upholstery, carpets, headlining or trim. A small piece of stiching has come adrift on the should of the drivers seat, but thats about it. Again, shes not new, nor do we hope you expect such, but i feel shes stood the test of time very well indeed.
