On offer is my 1953 Morris Minor Series MM 2 door Saloon which as you can see, is not exactly standard!
It is a Lowlight replica using all original steel panels (except the front spoiler which is fibreglass) and is now running a 1275cc A-series in place of its original side valve engine.
It also now has a Ford Type 9 5-speed gearbox, later 4. 2:1 ratio back axle and Marina based front disc brakes with a remote servo.
Due to the change in ratio's from original, the speedo does read slow and the mileage will also be a little behind.
I have tried to keep this as tasteful as possible in its modifications although I understand it may not be everyone's cup of tea!
It has 14" Minilight style alloy wheels with 185 tyres, the rims and tyres were all new when fitted in 2018 and have loads of life left in them still.
I have owned this car for 10 years now and it was restored and returned to the road in 2016 which is when I resprayed it to its current colour (in cellulose) and as its the first car I have painted myself the paintwork is not perfect, but is very presentable and will shine up nicely with a good polish. There are a few bubbles on the bottom's of the doors but otherwise nothing to report for a 7 year old respray. All window rubbers were replaced with new at this time and 3M sealant used.
It has had little use since Covid started, but I have recently fitted some NOS 7 leaf rear springs along with a refurbished rear axle and steering rack and have rebuilt both front calipers with new seals as they were a little sticky due to standing and it recently appeared at the Moggyfest event at Beaulieu Autojumble.
This car was built as a keeper for myself, but I have ALWAYS wanted a 1953 Morris Minor Van and the chance came up late last year to buy a Van, so I now have that and can't keep them all, hence the sale of this Saloon.
I would happily jump into this one and drive it anywhere, it has previously appeared at numerous shows along the South coast including Goodwood Revival, Wheels day etc and it is always well received wherever we go.
There are a few jobs that need doing on it though, I just haven't had time with the Van rebuild.
There are a few areas of welding that will need doing soon, nothing too serious and it has had few previous repairs so is mainly original underneath. The front edge of the passengers side outer sill is holed as pictured, there is some pin hole corrosion to the floor return on the drivers side under the back seat and signs of corrosion on the very bottoms of the inner wheel arches as pictured. All very minor for a 70 year old car but need mentioning and I want to be totally up front and honest.
The interior is the factory original to the car (except the carpets) and the front seats do need some TLC but are still presentable and actually really comfortable!
It has an original external metal sunvisor which I understand are a bit Marmite, but I think it suits it well.
The boot lid is its original and is as good as perfect, but the rear bumper valance is also fibreglass but I do have some paint left over that can be included if you wished to change that to a metal one.
The car has a complete new wiring loom, a replacement larger capacity fuel tank (Late Minor, not Escort type) and has the later steering column and spoked steering wheel fitted to enable flashing indicators to be fitted as I travelled a fair bit on Motorways with it. The original semaphore indicators are still fitted, but not wired for use.
Not sure what else to tell you about it really, its a wonderful car and I will be sad to see it go.
