• Timing belt changed 2019 at 59719 milesI bought the Volvo back in 2021 for light daily duties, and it’s proved reliable, useful and always turns heads. The first owner had the car for over 25 years, where it barely cover 60k miles. It was serviced at the same Volvo dealership in Surrey every year, regardless of mileage added, which makes for interesting reading in the service history! The car was then owned briefly for a year before I purchased it from a dealer in Dundee in early 2021. Initially I was just looking for a practical estate, but I was stunned by the condition and the provenance of the Volvo, and I’ve felt obliged to maintain it during my ownership.
I’ve Always run it on super unleaded, and any services and repairs have been carried out by a local Volvo specialist using OEM parts wear possible. It’s always started first time, and it drives beautifully. The boot is every useful and will embarrass most modern cars with it’s load-lugging ability. However, I’ve always protected the carpets and upholstery, the brilliant condition of which can be seen in the photos.
The engine pulls very strongly, particularly on turbo, and it settles down to a quiet tick-over on motorways. It can be a little thirsty on fuel around town, but it’s reasonably frugal for a 2-ton, 30 year-old wagon on longer journeys!
The interior is incredibly comfortable, and the seats are supportive and fresh. The dashboard is immaculate – the only addition is a double-din Kenwood head unit, which is Android and Apple Carplay compatible. I have the original stereo in case the new owner would like to change it back to stock. Everything works, including the recently refresh air conditioning which blows ice cold.
Although there are minor age-related marks that require careful inspection to notice, I believe in complete transparency. I want to mention a longer scratch along the offside sill caused by inadvertently encountering a traffic cone. While the impact is minimal, honesty is essential to accurately portray the car's condition. Apart from that, its overall presentation is stunning, making it the ideal choice for those seeking a practical classic. Genuine reasons force sale, and I’ll be sad to see her go.
